Using the library

You may use Library resources and borrow materials according to your affiliation with Brenau. Students and faculty have extensive access to materials needed for research. Computers and electronic resources provided by the Library are available to authorized users as determined by the policies of Information Technology.

Requesting a card

Accounts are automatically established for students when you take classes at Brenau and for faculty and staff when you are hired.

Additional individuals eligible to borrow books after verification of status include these groups:

  •     Immediate family (spouse & children) of faculty/staff
  •     Brenau Trustees and Board of Advisors
  •     Alumni
  •     BULLI members
  •     Students/Faculty/Staff with a valid ARCHE card
  •     Approved Professor Emeritus
  •     University of North Georgia Students affiliated with The Gainesville Theatre Alliance (GTA) with NGU ID

When requesting an account, please provide a photo ID, 6-digit Brenau ID number (if applicable), name, address, telephone number, and email.

Borrowing Periods

Quick Guide General Collection Reserves
Checkout Period -- Trustee Library Book 2 weeks + 1 renewal (no renewals for Browse books) 2 hours of in-library use only, or as determined by instructor
Checkout Period -- DVDs and CDs 2 hours, in-library use only 2 hours of in-library use only, or as determined by instructor
Patron Type Checkout Allowances
Brenau Students Up to 15 items for 2 weeks
Thesis Students Up to 15 items for the semester
Faculty/Staff Up to 25 items for 4 weeks
Courtesy Cardholders Up to 4 items for 2 weeks

Students not residing in Hall County or attending classes on the Gainesville campus have extended check-out privileges of 4 weeks. Accommodations will be made for distance students who need non-circulating items such as reference materials.

Special Borrowing Terms

Browse Books:  The Browse book collection of popular fiction and non-fiction is available for 2 week check-out to all patrons and may not be renewed.

Course Reserves:  The circulation period of materials placed on course reserve is designated by the course professor. Materials on 2 hour reserve may not leave the building; 24 hour reserve items and 2 day reserve items may leave the building.

Media:  CDs, videotapes, and DVDs may leave the library when checked out to faculty and staff. Students may check out and use media items in the Library. Media-equipped carrels are available in the Library for student use.

Periodicals:  Faculty may check out periodicals for 3 days.

Reference Books:  Faculty may check out reference books for 3 days. If the item requested is available in multiple collections, it will be checked out first from the circulating collection, then reference, and finally ready reference.

Holds:  Patrons may request that materials be held for pick-up for up to three days. Reserves may not be placed on hold.

Renewals

You may request renewals in person, by telephone, or by email. One renewal is allowed unless there is a special circumstance as determined by library staff. Renewals of materials obtained from other libraries via Information Delivery (ID) may be requested through the Interlibrary Loan Specialist. Students not residing in Hall County or attending classes on the Gainesville campus may also request renewals through library staff.
