Which Version of Zotero?

Zotero offers two versions:

Zotero for Firefox.

DOWNLOAD and USE THIS VERSION.

Downloading this version enables you to easily save the full text of  articles you find in databases. This is the most powerful version of Zotero, with additional functionality not found in the Standalone version. The Library supports Zotero for Firefox because it is the most powerful alternative. Zotero for Firefox "lives" in the Firefox browser window. This is the version taught in our classes. We strongly suggest you download and use this version for your research. Don't shortchange yourself!

Getting Zotero

To get Zotero, view this brief video or walk through the steps below.

Step 1: Getting Firefox

1. Download Firefox if you don't already have it.


Zotero for Firefox lives in the Firefox internet browser.

Since Zotero is a free (!) FireFox add-on; to use Zotero you must use Mozilla's Firefox browser. Download the most recent version. If you have an older version of Firefox, update it to the most recent version.

Step 2: Getting Zotero

2. Using Firefox, download Zotero for Firefox. 

 

Click to download  Zotero

 

Do not download the Standalone version.

Step 3: Download the Word Add-on

3. Next, close all Word docs on your computer.

Mac users - quit out of the program.

 

Download the Word Processor plugin.

 

The plugin will enable Zotero and Word to communicate. With it, you can insert in-text citations and create references pages.

Step 4. Set Up a Zotero Account

4. Register with Zotero.

 

Zotero will direct you to the account set-up page. Set up your account. Remember your user name and password. This account saves and shares the articles, books, etc. you collect.

Set Your Zotero Preferences

Next, sync to your Zotero account.
