Interlibrary Loan: Overview

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) allows the library to borrow books or get articles from other libraries if they are not available at Brenau. These services are provided to students, faculty, staff, and BULLI members.

Types of material that can be borrowed:

  • Books
  • Book Chapters (within copyright limitations)
  • Articles
  • Theses and dissertations
  • Some audiovisual materials (faculty only)

Types of material that cannot be borrowed:

  • Textbooks for current Brenau courses
  • Entire eBooks
  • Entire periodical issues
  • Reference books
  • Rare/valuable materials or manuscripts

Item Delivery

Brenau Trustee Library does not charge to use our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. When items arrive, you will be notified by email.

Electronic articles will be e-mailed directly, while physical materials can be picked up and returned at the Brenau Trustee Library in Gainesville or at the Norcross campus. If you are a distance learner, physical items can be mailed to you but you will be responsible for returning materials at your own expense using a mail carrier that provides tracking.

Please note that if you request materials on the weekend, they may not be submitted until the following Monday.

Copyright Compliance

By placing an interlibrary loan (ILL) request, you accept responsibility for any materials obtained through the ILL service and agree to abide by all applicable copyright laws.

Compliance with copyright law means that items received through interlibrary loan are for your personal study, research, or scholarship. They may not be shared with others. Faculty and students may not send ILL items to others electronically or make copies for others. Faculty may not disseminate items received via interlibrary loan on Canvas course sites or place them on reserve for courses.

If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
